Competing in ICT

Sweden – The Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) – OpenRatio has created an online mobile CMS-platform that enables individuals and companies with no or little previous application design experience or programming knowledge, to create, publish and update (native) mobile applications to a broad range of devices and platforms.

Italy – Politecnico di Milano (POLIMI) – eMercurios product is a simulator that automates the hardware design of electronic circuits, which can aid companies in this field to decrease time to market and assure best quality. For example, in the field of multiprocessors (needed in all modern computing), the design phase takes a major time and this product can decrease the design phase from nearly 12 months to one month, i.e. having a significant impact on the industry.

USA – The University of Texas at Austin – Lynx Laboratories has developed product which is a hardware solution combining an embedded processing system on a chip (SoC), our software, and a low cost camera to enable live dense 3D mapping. Their system combines multiple images obtained from a single moving camera to produce 3D models of arbitrary environments.

USA – Kennesaw State University – iSchool initiative is a student-led social enterprise dedicated to revolutionizing the U.S. high school educational systems by inspiring and educating students on how to become lifelong digital learners in the Information Age. It will accomplish this goal by raising awareness of the technological needs in today’s classrooms through seminars and studies of the use of innovative technology in education such as the “iPad Student Cost/Benefit Analysis.” 

Japan – Keio University – Moku-Chin Recipe design ideas are developed in order to renovate Japanese typical type of wooden apartments called “Moku-Chin” (“Moku” stands for “wood”, “Chin” stands for “rent”). “Moku-Chin Recipe” is a design tool for Moku-Chin owners, Real Estate Company and for the inhabitants. Providing this tool to them we will be able to realize a totally new way of design/renovation.

Egypt – Menoufiya University – Kashef is competing with a Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) air vehicle. Which is a detection device that is highly sophisticated yet simple to operate with a system that is not held in hand, but is operated wirelessly.

Competing in Life Science

Germany – Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen University (RWTH)  Solvano is competing with a microemulsion composed of water, surfactants and a booster. This booster reduces the necessary amount of surfactants and therewith the costs of the emulsion. Due to its chemical properties it can substitute the chemicals in the pretreatment process in textile cleaning.

Brazil – Federal University of Ouro Preto – Febetechs products are the derivatives from candeia oil, called Bisabolol oxides A and B. They show interesting olfactory characteristics and have important cicatrisation properties. Bisabolol is known to have anti-irritant, anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties. The technology that underlies Febetech products is a process to transform Bisabolol into more powerful oxides.

Brazil – Federal University of Juiz de Fora  NanoBee is an active and nanostructured pharmaceutical propolis-based input, obtained by an all-new nanostructarion process that allows its size and surface properties to be controlled according to the desired goal. Our patented process of obtaining the nanoparticles is unique because it is fast, inexpensive and has low complexity, generating a biodegradable and bio-tolerated product, free of organic solvent residues.

Ireland – Trinity College Dublin – Robotic Assistive Devices product is a semi-autonomous robotic wheelchair for use in hospitals and healthcare facilities. This device is capable of safely transporting patients between locations in a hospital without the patient requiring human accompaniment. 

USA – University of Louisville  VOC Diagnostics is introducing VitaLung, an innovative, non-invasive, accurate and inexpensive medical device for diagnosing lung cancer using a patient’s breath.  VOC Diagnostics has secured an exclusive option from the University of Louisville to license the patent pending technology behind VitaLung, and is currently in the midst of a human efficacy trial. To date, over one hundred patients have been tested.

USA – Saint Louis University (SLU)  SonoGrab combines a hemostat, a surgical grasping tool, with a miniature ultrasound probe. Upon insertion into tissue, the ultrasound probe provides an accurate image of tissue and the distal location of the foreign object for the surgeon. SonoGrab is able to detect the location of the foreign object continuously as the surgeon moves his tool through the patient’s tissue.

Competing in Energy

Russia – The Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas  New look on dirigibles using will compete with logistics questions acquire a key value as far as it concerns to the Arctic offshore oil & gas field development. In the research work is presented the idea of using the dirigibles for transporting the drilling rigs for exploration drilling. This will essentially decrease the cost of exploration, furthermore this will speed – up the exploration either.

USA – Washington University in St. Louis – Aerosol Capture Technologies is competing with a low energy Soft X-Ray Corona (SXC) system wich is a device capable of charging aerosols particles (particles suspended in a gas) for capture using electrostatic precipitation.

Egypt – Helwan University – Future Grids system enables users to have a customized power cutoff in peak hours through efficiently managing energy consumption. It provides two-way communications between the electric utility and energy meters at home so that the electric utility remotely monitors consumption of each user periodically.

USA – University of New Hampshire (UNH) – Sensible Spreader Technologies is an environmentally friendly deicing system using an integration of GPS technology and mechanical spreader systems, as well as a retrofit to existing hoppers allowing the driver to focus on the road while the GPS based spreader system focuses on applying the deicer best suited to the particular location and environment that the truck is transiting.

USA – Arizona State University   Solar Stream Innovations LLC is competing a B2B company that provides both a product and service to commercial installers. Their product is a solar energy system capable of providing cost-effective, on-demand, 24- hour electricity and heating.
